News HomeYear 9 Belgium Trip
Our annual Year 9 Battlefields Trip to Belgium was a truly valuable learning experience, with visits to Tyne Cot Cemetery, the Hooge Crater Museum, the world-famous Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres – as well as our obligatory stop at the chocolate shop! The visit to actual World War One trenches really gave students a feel of what it would have been like to have been a soldier in the cold and treacherous war.
As always, Year 9 students had the privilege of attending the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate. This year two of our own students were able to lay a wreath in memory of their ancestors, which was a very moving highlight.
Victoria said: “Belgium was very fun, adventurous and eye-opening. It was also sad seeing how many soldiers had died in the Great War. This experience was memorable, teaching us about what had happened in the past and to reconsider our actions which could affect many people in the future. It’s shocking to see how many countries still go to war when they know what the outcome will be.”
