Year 12 Progression Week - Bath & Oxford

Work experience/undergraduate preparation week gave me the opportunity to explore Bath and Oxford universities. This gave me very valuable insight not only into what my course entails at an undergraduate level, but also how different life at uni really is and even how dissimilar the universities are themselves. Visiting the two universities really gave me a feel into what I am looking for at my next place of study which will definitely prove to be useful during my application process moving forward. Furthermore, during this week, I was able to take the time to complete university short courses relating to what I plan to study in the future. The Harvard University introduction to Neuroscience gave me some supra-curricular knowledge which will be beneficial during interviews as well as when composing personal statements.

Additionally, I was also able to tackle difficult course-related exam questions which will be crucial for my medicine admissions test which coupled with the aforementioned activities, made me feel significantly more prepared.

Finally, I was able to secure in person work experience at Whittington hospital, thanks to the support from the head of the sixth form, which for me, seemed out of reach as this is very rare. This was such an exciting experience which was not only useful for me to delve deeper into my passion for medicine to see what my career post-university will look like but also allowed me to explore all the different pathways available in the world of medicine. This was also so advantageous because having this hands-on experience will make me a much stronger applicant for universities as it shows understanding and appreciation for the field.
